LIHEAP is the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program it assists households with heating and cooling energy costs (including propane), bill payment assistance, weatherization, and energy-related home repairs. Funding is available through the Navajo Nation Department of Family Services - Financial Assistance Program.
You can pick up a LIHEAP application at the NGTI offices, or contact the Navajo Nation Division of Social Services Office. NGTI staff will be happy to assist you in completing the application or understanding the requirements for distribution.
Return the completed document to your local Social Services office.
SWIF is a non-profit, charitable organization based in Gallup NM that prioritizes assistance to Native American (only) elderly, handicapped, and families with dependent children. In addition to heating fuel (propane), SWIF provides food, alcohol counseling, and other emergency assistance.
Proof of Indian Blood and verification of income are required to be submitted with the application. The Propane Quotation Form will need to be completed by NGTI (or other gas company).
